The maternity journey is a significant

and will have implications for her transition into parenthood and her mothering experience.

Pregnancy and birth are unique life events

Having first qualified as a Registered General Nurse I then qualified as a Registered Midwife in 1984. Since that time I have worked overseas in Western Samoa and Australia, and have worked in the NHS both in a hospital and, for the past 6 years, in a community setting. I am experienced, competent and confident in homebirth, waterbirth, activebirth, vaginal birth after caesarean (www.vbac.com) and breastfeeding support.

I have attended over 100 women in the past six years who have chosen home as their place of birth, many of these have been water births and some of them have been vaginal homebirths after a previous caesarean. I qualified as a National Childbirth Trust Antenatal Educator in 1994 and have taught for the trust since then.

In 2004 I completed a Master's Degree in Women's Studies to complement my previous qualifications: R.G.N. (Registered General Nurse) in 1982; R.M. (Registered Midwife) in 1984; and N.C.T. (National Childbirth Trust) in 1994.

I live in Northampton from where I am willing to travel a distance of up to one hour. I have three teenage boys (see above) all of whom were born at home with a midwife I chose and trusted and who offered me continuity of care. I feel very fortunate to have received the maternity care I did, and believe very strongly that continuous and trusted midwifery support is of paramount importance to a woman's experience of birth.

My transition into Independent Practice at the end of 2005 was driven by a desire to give clients one-to-one midwifery care within the comfort of their own home, a model of care that provides me with great job satisfaction. As a registered midwife (Nursing and Midwifery Council), my professional Code of Conduct and Rules guide my practice and the Local Supervising Authority supports and supervises my practice and equipment.
